John From Cincinnati is an American television drama, set against the surfing community of Imperial Beach, California broadcast on HBO It is the result of a collaborative effort between writers David Milch and Kem Nunn, whose novels have been termed surf noir. The series began filming in October 2006, and premiered on June 10, 2007.
The John from Cincinnati Art Department were checking out a local Coffee shop for an up coming scene to be film there when they spotted a set of hammered steel waves made by local artist Kelly Tracy.
They contacted Kelly Tracy President of the Imperial Beach Art Guild seeking permission to use the waves and inquired about more beach type art.
Kelly Tracy invited them to his art studio where they were impressed with several works of art by Imperial Beach Art Guild members Jim Lynn, Rubia Ronquillo and Kelly Tracy.
The Art Guild delivered the art the next day to be hung on the set of John From Cincinnati in "I.B. Coffee".Stay tuned to HBO Channel 200 Sunday Nights at 9:00PM to see Kelly Tracy ,Rubia Ronquillo and their Artwork in this seasons show.
Kelly and Rubia were very excited about their request to use the artwork. The executive producer David Milch liked them and their art so much he purchased the Art and graciously gave it to the Owner of I.B. Coffee.
