Fish Original
There has been much research on omega-3 fish oil and pregnancy. These studies were reviewed by physicians to achieve to dietary recommendations for their patients and others. In particular, researchers have examined the importance of docosahexaenoic acid or DHA, although EPA and ALA are also important.
There are two types of fats that must be present in the diet throughout the a person's life. They are called omega-3 and omega-6. Within these groups are a series of specific fatty acids. For example, linoleic acid is an essential omega-6.
ALA is considered by some, such as omega-3 essential only because some conversion of EPA and DHA are produced in the body. However, some studies indicate that DHA is also essential. The researchers found that increased intake of a person ALA does not increase the circulating blood levels of DHA.
Nutritionists say that food is "essential" then it should be present in the diet because the body can not create. But there is a gray area on DHA, since the production of body is limited and varies from person to person.
Studies on fish oil and pregnancy has been initiated following studies observation in which the diets of women were examined and the results of their pregnancy in comparison. Since DHA and EPA are found only in seafood and some women do not consume, it was relatively easy to see the effects.
First, it was observed that women with more omega-3 intake of babies born with birth weight. They were also less risk of premature birth. As there are different types of omega-3, a subsequent study compared the benefits of eating olive oil, which provides only the ALA, the benefits of fish oil delivery of EPA and DHA and other omega-3 fatty acids.
The results of needle interest in fish oil and pregnancy, as the results in the group of olive oil are not also impressive. Other studies have compared outcomes of women who took a supplement of corn oil, which provides mainly omega-6.
In all comparisons, children born to women taking a supplement containing DHA scored higher in the eye and hand coordination, testing and treatment of mental acuity. These results were replicated in other studies, again and again.
The bottom line is this. DHA is essential for development and normal brain function.
Some groups have questioned the validity of fish oil and pregnancy studies because they believe that vegetarians are generally healthy. A recent report the American Dietetic Association acknowledges that this is true, but that supplementation of essential nutrients such as DHA is important.
For women who Vegans are a good option is a supplement of algae. This is where fish DHA in their origin. The amount of fat in their growth because they eat other fish, but so does the amount of pollutants such as mercury, which is why it is very important to choose supplements.
